Why I Built RFPup
As a freelance dev, government contracts always seemed appealing. The client tells you what they want and their budget before you even say hello?
Then I started navigating the wonderful world of online government contract websites.
Yuck.
- Confusing portals
- Giant PDFs written in federal-ese
- Half-broken search tools
- A lingering sense that these jobs were built for companies with full-time proposal teams
So that’s why RFPup was born.
I figured it might be cool to bring people along for the ride.
Right now, I’m:
- Scraping local government bids from California counties
- Breaking them down into plain English
- Tagging them as “solo-friendly,” “recurring,” etc.
- Making it dead simple to discover realistic opportunities
I’m trying to build the website I always wished existed.
Right now we’re at stage 0.1 — but I wanted to get something up early because this really does feel like a real problem.
If you’re a small business owner, freelancer, or just someone who wants a shot at these contracts without needing a 100-page proposal — this is for you.
Thanks for reading.
